March for science in Accra

This year’s World Earth Day was all about environment and climate literacy. Accra was among the cities across the world that observed this day.

The event was organised by March for Science Accra, Afia Beach Hotel and Hipsters of Nature on 22nd April 2017 at Afia Beach Hotel, Accra. About 200 people gathered at the hotel to participate in the event.  The programme featured  speakers, educators,  and researchers who discussed their works in areas such as illegal mining, waste management, climate change and urban gardening with participants.

Rufai Zakari, a known artist from Nima, supervised participants in a mural art work using waste such as plastic bottles  and car tyres.

The programme was participatory and fun. One participant at the programme said, I shall attend the event next year, I would like to see more of such programmes in Ghana to create more awareness on water pollution”

Beach Clean up

Ocean trash is a serious pollution problem that affects the health of people, wildlife and local economies. Apart from causing choking hazards for marine life, it also defaces our beaches. No matter where we live, the ocean is our life support system. Coastal Cleanup Day is  on 17th September. It is a day dedicated across the world to the improvement of beaches, coastal regions and surrounding areas throughout the world

Hipsters of Nature is teaming up with Afia Beach Hotel to help keep our ocean and waterways clean.

We are hosting a clean up exercise and fun games at the Afia Beach Hotel, located near Birth and Death Registry or MUSIGA on 17th September, 2016 from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m.

World Environment Day, 2015

World Environment Day is an annual event that is aimed at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is: ”7Billion dreams. One Planet. Consume with care”.

To mark WED this year 2015, Hipsters of Nature is organizing a campaign on waste segregation. Our aim to promote recycling, reusing and reducing of waste among young people. We have selected about 10 schools in the Accra Metropolis and provided them with waste containers for segregation of various type of waste such as paper, plastic, battery and organic waste. Workshops starting from April to May will be organized for the schools on Recycling, Reusing and Reducing of waste. The aim of the project is to encourage kids to raise awareness at their homes about the proper disposal of waste especially batteries and plastic bags.
